Not Just Surviving, Thriving
Youth Cancer Survivor Program
Ages 5-16
Appleton YMCA

The Youth Cancer Program at the Y is a 7-session small group or individual program designed specifically for cancer survivors ages 5-16, who have recently become de-conditioned or chronically fatigued from their treatment and/or disease.

Cancer is a life-changing disease that takes a tremendous physical and emotional toll on those affected. This physical activity and well-being program is designed to help young cancer survivors just be kids.

Participants work with trained Y Staff to safely provide activities to build muscle and strength; increase flexibility and endurance; and improving confidence and self-esteem. By focusing on the whole person and not the disease.

  • Advanced Registration is REQUIRED.
  • Cost is FREE to both Y Members and General Public
  • MADE POSSIBLE BY PROCEEDS OF THE ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
  • This program is 7 sessions and meets once a week for 30 minutes

Instructors:

Instructors are trained Y Staff that will give individualized instruction and support to the participants.

"I feel that this program is important for kids in finding their new normal. Survivors are dealing with both short term and long term effects such as fatigue, balance, coordination, etc. Assisting in making them stronger, while building that confidence, can help make that transition back to school and sports with their peers go more smoothly."
