YMCA School Age Programs (Before/After) Appleton School District

21st Century Community Learning Centers

The 21st Century Community Learning Centers are designed to make lasting changes in the lives of children through positive youth development. The Appleton Area School District established after-school programs through funds provided by a US Department of Education grant. Partnerships with community organizations are helping the Centers provide academic and enrichment opportunities for students in safe, supportive after-school environments.

Mission Statement

To create a safe, drug-free environment during non-school hours that supports student achievement, healthy lifestyles, and developmental assets through an integrated network of community-wide partners that is responsive to the diverse needs of the school community.

21st Century Program Goals

  • Improve a student's academic achievement
  • Provide a safe, drug-free environment for students who need after-school supervision
  • Promote involvement in academic, recreational, cultural, health, and social programs
  • Increase access to technology

21st Century Program Sites

Full-time site coordinators are located at each school to create vital links between the student's school hours and non-school hours. Site coordinators are provided by the Boys & Girls Club of the Fox Valley and the YMCA.
